Australian National Low Emissions Coal
Research & Development

2011-2012 Funding Round NOW CLOSED

05-Aug-2011

NOW CLOSED. Firm Closing Date – 7th September 2011

ANLEC R&D has been established to support R&D for power generation from Low Emission Coal Technologies (LECTs). If the cost of electricity from these technologies is to be significantly reduced, large reductions to investment risk will be necessary.

The ANLEC R&D Alternatives and Fundamentals Research Program aims to investigate and enable those technology innovations that offer large reductions in the capital and operating cost for power generation from coal with the low greenhouse gas emissions. Typical coal fired power generation technologies considered for attention include, oxy-fuel combustion, post combustion capture processes, integrated gasification combined cycle systems, carbon dioxide transport and storage, advanced low emission technologies for brown coal. Research informing permitting and portfolio assessment are also included.

CALL FOR RESEARCH PROPOSALS - 2012

ANLEC R&D offers up to $5 million in total, accessible through competitive grants, for Australian Research and Technical Development. This initiative invites Expressions of Interest to undertake research commencing in July 2012 that offers:

  • Opportunities to test credible concepts for reducing the cost of electricity from power generation with low greenhouse gas emissions
  • Innovation for reducing the commercial risk associated with low emissions coal technologies

Short desktop studies that seek to interrogate the scope and credibility of emergent innovative ideas are encouraged. These could address issues such as water consumption and disposal, understanding acceptable gas quality with respect to subsurface storage, renewable synergies for coal systems etc.

Expressions of interest must be submitted using the ANLEC R&D EOI Form.

It is expected that this call for expressions of interest will be over-subscribed; therefore, applicants should take the time to carefully read through the EOI Guidelines to ensure their submissions:

  • address the ANLEC R&D objectives
  • represents value for effort through appropriate leveraging and
  • are able to set clear research and technology objectives for delivery

Co-contribution to the project proposals, either cash funded or in-kind, will be highly regarded.
